Albert Chr. Reck in conjunction with Father Hassler organised a Summer Art School in the Transkei in rural South Africa. Here Xhosa Students were tought art by Albert Reck and his wife Maria-Luiese. The students were tought drawing, weaving and pottery. Albert Chr. Reck entered his students work in an art competition runn by the Sanlam Inshurance company of South Africa. Three of the students were amoung the ten best chosen out of a total entry of over 200 works. |

This was the first time in the history of South Africa that Black students competed in the same competition with white students and it was also the first time that black students were awarded prizes for thiere art work in South Africa. Unfortunatly due to the prevailing apartheit polecies at the time the Goverment soon closed down the school and refused to give Father Hassler a renewed work permit. |
